What did you like about Cliffhanger? Feel of the event, liked everything, family atmosphere, feel and mix of events, free stuff, fun stuff for kids, good location, good spectator points, high spirits, cinema tent, all the climbing, hot chocolate, lots to see and do, not previously our thing – now inspired!I missed sat due to work (bugger) sounds like it was ace. Went today though with the family and we had a top time. The wife and kids loved it even though it was raining, the bouldering comp was brilliant (I wish I could climb as good as those kids) and we got some great bargains in the tents.

NIKITA CHICKITA EUROPE-5-6 April 2008 (Final Results)

What a fantastic event!  The Serfaus weather was kind, the girls were ready and the atmosphere was just buzzing.  Earlier on in the day, during qualifications, the snow flurries set in reducing visibility but soon cleared up with bright sunny spells shining as the afternoon wore on and the finals took place. All in all there were nineteen girls who took part on the women’s contest and three in the juniors.  Eleven went through to the women’s finals and deciding judges Julia (Baumgartner) and Vinzenz Lüps were impressed with the standard of riding which had improved from even last year’s event.  First, second and third places were clear whilst placing four to eight made for some difficult decisions.   Founder and Head Designer of Nikita Clothing Heida Birgisdottir was in Serfaus to witness the contest and give away prizes as well to do some shredding herself.  When asked, she said that “it’s great to see how much the girls are progressing, not only in tricks, but also in style. I’m stoked that we at Nikita have been able to create an event where the girls get together and push each other without the often not so pleasant ‘contest pressure’ in the air. They are just hanging out and chatting between runs, the atmosphere is super friendly - and I think that’s exactly why they are pushing themselves to new levels here today. This is also what makes the Nikita Chickita, as an event, a pure success.” Here’s the WOMENS FINALS RESULTS

  1. Ana Rumiha (Croatia)
  2. Bohdana Šebestová (Czech Republic)
  3. Maude Richon (Switzerland)
  4. Anja Stefan (Croatia)
  5. Elena Kenz (Switzerland)
  6. Sandy Gecek (Austria)
  7. Hanka Voyteckovska (Czech Republic)
  8. Helen Wyss (Switzerland)
  9. Agnieszka Rusin (Poland)
  10. Cristina Tuberosa (Italy)
  11. Sandra Graf (Switzerland)

 …and the JUNIORS FINALS RESULTS

  1. Katarzyna Rusin (Poland)
  2. Sophie Gogl (Austria)
  3. Viktoria Bayer (Austria)

Ana Rumiha competed last year and just missed out on a podium place in the women’s finals by finishing 4th, this year she was a clear winner with some really safe and stylish runs.  She did three different runs in the finals, the last of which was awesome.  It consisted of a backside 180, frontside 360 indy and she was the only girl who bonked the tree with a nice frontside 180, then frontside 360 on the wall.  She won 1,000 Euros and the coveted one-year Nikita contract.  Congrats from Snowzone.tv to both, Ana Rumiha (Croatia) and Katarzyna Rusin (Poland) on their wins!

WILD GIRLS ON SNOW

The 9th annual, Wild Girls on Snow charity event is set to run from the 2nd to the 5th of March and will be held in Klosters, Switzerland.

The 2008, Wild Girls on Snow Event this year, is in support of two charities: Katie’s Ski Tracks, a small voluntary organization that provides opportunities for children with varying disabilities and funding allows these children to take part in skiing holidays.

The second charity is called, Right to Play, which uses sport and play programmes to improve health and education while fostering peace for children affected by war, poverty and disease.

The event was originally organised by Clair Southwell and over the past nine years, Wild Girls on Snow has grown to a well-established, recognized event and raised over CHF 440,000.

Wild Girls on Snow has also built the reputation as a “unique and fun skiing event” by creatively mixing twenty teams, with three girls per team (co-ed teams are also accepted) with an additional fourth celebrity member of the team’s choice. Celebrities are a combination of top skiers, together well known individuals.

The event entails three evenings with dinners, entertainment, and two full days of skiing in Klosters/Davos.

THE DAVOS KLOSTERS RIDE 08

The second edition of the Davos Klosters Ride, aka ‘The British Big Mountain Championships’ will be taking place again this season in the snowy month of March.
The event is going to be bigger and better with the inclusion of an IFSA (International Free Skiers Association) sanctioned European tour event, which will be happening just after the British Big Mountain Championships. This will provide British Freeskiing athletes an excellent opportunity to qualify directly into a European standard competition. The Davos Klosters Ride 08 will be taking place from the 24th to 28th March 2008 in the world-renowned Davos Klosters Mountains. The Davos Klosters Ride 08 has been created by Ride Freesports and Southwell Enterprises to further promote backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the UK and to give British athletes a platform so they can compete in world class Freeride competitions like the Verbier Ride, Big Mountain Heli Ride and the Stimorol Engadinsnow 09. Event directors Warren Smith, Chris Southwell and Nick Southwell believe this will be a huge opportunity for UK freeskiers and Snowboarders to be judged with IFSA sanctioning, gain TV exposure and to eventually take their level to that of a European and World athlete.  The 24 minute TV programme director, Melody Sky, is excited about the opportunity to film a movie in the Davos Klosters Mountain’s and exposure the freeriding expanse to over 5 million viewers across the globe. The event will be a IFSA European Tour Qualifier with the top five male and top three female skiers gaining entrance in to the qualifiers of the European Tour Event on the 26th and 27th of March. The event will also be a qualifier for the top snowboarder to gain entry into the Stimorol Engadinsnow 09. This is a huge step for British Freeriding and will give the winner of the Davos Klosters Ride 08 a chance to compete against the likes of Ted Davenport, Flo Örley, Steve Klassen and Cyril Neril.
